These are TSO's Conditions of Website Use. Please review the separate Terms and Conditions for the Online Bookshop, which are attached to the standard terms below.
TSO (The Stationery Office) websites are maintained for the personal use and viewing of users. Access to and use of these websites is subject to the following Terms and Conditions. Please note that any references to TSO in these Terms and Conditions also include (where the content permits) the licensors of the TSO.
1. Rights Granted and Main Restrictions
1.1 The access and use of any TSO website featuring these Terms and Conditions constitutes the user's acceptance of these Terms and Conditions which take effect from the date from which each user first uses any such website.
1.2 All rights, including copyright, in the content of TSO web pages are owned or controlled for these purposes by TSO. Users may download printed copies of the material displayed on a TSO website for personal use only; provided that each user retains all copyright notices and other proprietary notices contained on or in relation to the materials included in that TSO website. Users may not print, copy, reproduce, download, republish, broadcast, transmit, display, modify or re-use the materials from a TSO website for any other purpose, including in particular any purpose which publicly re-sells or re-uses the materials.
1.3 The trade marks, logos, names and images displayed on TSO websites are the registered or unregistered trade marks of TSO and others. Nothing in a TSO website should be taken as conferring by implication, estoppel or otherwise any licence or right to use any trade mark displayed on such website without the prior written approval of TSO or such third party as may own the relevant trade mark.
2. Disclaimer
2.1 The material on the TSO website is provided "as is", without any conditions, warranties or other terms of any kind. Accordingly, to the maximum extent permitted by law, TSO provides you with the TSO website on the basis that TSO excludes all representations, warranties, conditions and other terms (including, without limitation, the conditions implied by law of satisfactory quality, fitness for purpose and the use of reasonable care and skill, which, but for this legal notice, might have effect in relation to the TSO website.
2.2 While TSO endeavours to ensure that the information on the TSO website is correct, TSO does not warrant the accuracy and completeness of the material on the TSO website. TSO may make changes to the material on the TSO website, or to the products and prices described in it, at any time without notice. The material on the TSO website may be out of date, and TSO makes no commitment to update such material.
2.3 Our websites contain guidance and notes on certain aspects of law or other technical issues as they might affect the average person. They are intended only as a broad guideline and are by no means definitive. The law and industry practice is constantly changing, so expert advice should always be sought.
2.4 While the Company endeavours to ensure that the TSO website is normally available 24 hours a day, the Company shall not be liable if for any reason the TSO website is unavailable at any time or for any period. Access to the TSO website may be suspended temporarily and without notice in the case of system failure, maintenance or repair or for reasons beyond the TSO's control.
2.5 Links contained in TSO websites may lead to websites not under the control of TSO and TSO is not responsible for the contents of any linked site or any link contained in a linked site. Links provided on TSO websites are provided to users only as a convenience and the inclusion of any link does not imply endorsement by TSO of, and TSO accepts no liability in respect of the content of, any such linked site. Users link to any linked sites at their own risk.
3. Linking
Users shall not be entitled (nor shall they assist others) to set up links from their own websites to any TSO website (whether by hypertext linking, deep-linking, framing, tagging or otherwise) without the prior written consent of TSO, which consent the TSO may at its absolute discretion, and without providing a reason, grant or withhold.
4. Supply of Information
4.1 Any communication, information or query (apart from payment transaction information, including credit-card particulars) transmitted by a user to a TSO website by electronic mail or otherwise will be treated as non-proprietary and non-confidential. Anything transmitted by any user may be used by TSO or its affiliates for any purpose, including, without limitation, broadcast, transmission, publication, reproduction, disclosure, posting and any other use whatsoever.
Although TSO may from time to time monitor or review discussions, chats, postings, transmissions, bulletin boards and the like on its websites, TSO is under no obligation to do so and assumes no responsibility or liability arising from the content of any such locations nor for any error, omission, infringement, defamation, obscenity, or inaccuracy contained in any information within such locations on its websites.
Users are prohibited from posting or transmitting any unlawful, defamatory, obscene or scandalous material or any material that constitutes or encourages conduct that would be considered a criminal offence, likely to give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violates any law. TSO will fully cooperate with any law enforcement authorities or court order requesting or directing TSO to disclose the identity of anyone posting any such information or materials on its websites.
4.2 If applicable, TSO's web server may automatically recognise the domain name and e-mail address (where possible) of users of its websites. TSO may collect the domain name and e-mail address of visitors to its websites, the e-mail addresses of those who communicate with TSO via e-mail and aggregate information on what pages users access or visit and information volunteered by the user, such as survey information and/or site registrations.
4.3 The information collected by TSO is used for internal review, used to improve the content of its website, used to customise the content and/or layout of its websites for each individual user, used to notify users about updates to its websites, used by TSO to contact users for marketing purposes and is not shared with other organisations for commercial purposes.
5. Returns Policy
5.1 We will replace at no extra cost any goods damaged before or on delivery, if you notify us by telephone or in writing within 5 days of their receipt.
5.2 We will replace at no extra cost to You, any Goods which in Our reasonable opinion have been lost in transit provided that You notify us by telephone or in writing if the Goods fail to arrive within 28 days after the anticipated delivery date.
5.3 Where you are a consumer (non-business customer) and entitled to cancel under the Consumer Protection (Distance Regulations 2000), you may cancel your order without cause within seven days of receipt of the goods, provided that orders for the supply of audio or video recordings or computer software may not be cancelled once the goods have been unsealed. Otherwise you will not be entitled to cancel any order that we have already entered into our order processing system.

6. Revision of Terms and Conditions
6.1 TSO may at any time revise these Terms and Conditions without notice by posting changes on-line. Users are responsible for reviewing all information posted on-line and the continued use of TSO websites after changes are posted constitute the user's acceptance of modified Terms and Conditions.
6.2 A user's authorisation to use TSO websites automatically terminates without notice if in TSO's sole discretion the user fails to comply with any of the Terms and Conditions. On termination, the user must cease all use of TSO websites and destroy all and any materials copied directly or indirectly from any such websites.
7. General
TSO, any other party (whether or not involved in creating, producing, maintaining or delivering the Website), and any of the TSO's group companies and the officers, directors, employees, shareholders or agents of any of them, exclude all liability and responsibility for any amount or kind of loss or damage that may result to you or a third party (including without limitation, any direct, indirect, punitive or consequential loss or damages, or any loss of income, profits, goodwill, data, contracts, use of money, or loss or damages arising from or connected in any way to business interruption, and whether in tort (including without limitation negligence), contract or otherwise) in connection with the TSO website in any way including but not limited to:
- use of or reliance on the advice given by our experts in response to the queries submitted on the TSO website; or
- in connection with any other use, inability to use or the results of use of the TSO website, any websites linked to the TSO website or the material on such websites, including but not limited to loss or damage due to viruses that may infect your computer equipment, software, data or other property on account of your access to, use of, or browsing the TSO website or your downloading of any material from the TSO website or any websites linked to the TSO website.
7.2 Nothing in this legal notice shall exclude or limit the TSO's liability for:
- death or personal injury caused by negligence
- fraud; or
- any liability which cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.
7.3 If your use of material on the TSO website results in the need for servicing, repair or correction of equipment, software or data, you assume all costs thereof.
7.4 Subject to clause 7.2 every user shall indemnify and keep indemnified on a continuing basis TSO or any of its group companies or licensors against any actions, costs (including but not limited to legal costs), expenses, damages, awards, compensation, fines, Court and/or Tribunal awards and all other liabilities arising from your breach of these Terms and Conditions (including but not limited to death or personal injury or damage to property).
8. Visitor Material and Conduct
8.1 Other than information (including personal data) that is covered under our Privacy Policy, any material you transmit or post to the TSO website shall be considered non-confidential and non-proprietary. TSO shall have no obligations with respect to such material. TSO shall be free to copy, disclose, distribute, incorporate and otherwise use such material and all data, images, sounds, text and other things embodied therein for any and all commercial or non-commercial purposes.
8.2 You are prohibited from posting or transmitting to or from the TSO website any material:
- that is threatening, defamatory, obscene, indecent, seditious, offensive, pornographic, abusive, liable to incite racial hatred, discriminatory, menacing, scandalous, inflammatory, blasphemous, in breach of confidence, in breach of privacy or which may cause annoyance or inconvenience; or
- for which you have not obtained all necessary licences and/or approvals (including but not limited to intellectual property rights); or
- which constitutes or encourages conduct that would be considered a criminal offence, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise be contrary to the law of or infringe the rights of any third party, in any country in the world; or
- which is technically harmful (including, without limitation, computer viruses, logic bombs, Trojan horses, worms, harmful components, corrupted data or other malicious software or harmful data).
8.3 You may not misuse the TSO website (including, without limitation, by hacking).
8.4 TSO shall fully co-operate with any law enforcement authorities or court order requesting or directing TSO to disclose the identity or locate anyone posting any material in breach of clause 8.2 or clause 8.3
9. Ask the Expert
9.1 Users, by submitting a query on our website, confirm that they have all intellectual property rights and any copyrights to its content (if applicable) and indemnify us from any third party claims in accordance with clause 7.4. Users further agree to waive unconditionally and irrevocably all intellectual property rights and any copyrights of the query submitted. Users hereby grant TSO an assignment of all intellectual property rights including copyrights.
9.2 TSO may at its absolute discretion publish (or decline to publish) any query submitted to the TSO website and, for the avoidance of doubt, any such query should be owned by TSO absolutely without the need for any payment to the user.
10. Third Party Rights
10.1 By submitting a query on our website, you consent that TSO’s licensors may enforce their rights against any breaches of these Terms and Conditions.
11. Severability
11.1 If any of these Terms and Conditions are determined by any competent authority to be invalid, unlawful or unenforceable to any extent, such term, condition or provision will to that extent be severed from the remaining terms, conditions and provisions which will continue to be valid to the fullest extent permitted by law.
13. General
13.1 These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of England. If any provision of the foregoing is held to be unlawful, void or for any reason unenforceable, then that provision shall be deemed severable and shall not affect the validity and enforceability of the remaining provisions.
